FASTag will not be levied, we will have to pay double tax from December 1!

Starting next month, car owners who have no FASTag on their car will have to pay toll twice for entering the electronic toll lane. The government is taking this step to achieve 100 percent electronic toll collection. Earlier this year, the Transport Ministry announced that from December 1, all lanes of national highway toll plazas will be equipped with electronic toll collection infrastructure so that people do not waste time on toll plazas.

What is Fastag?

This radio frequency identification (RFID) tag will be placed on the windscreen of the vehicle, which will be linked to the bank account or the payment wall of the National Highways Authority of India. With this, the car owners will not have to stop passing through the toll plaza and the amount will be automatically deducted from the account. A senior government official told ET, "As we move towards the December deadline, car owners are also encouraged to adopt the FASTags system. If someone enters the ETC lane without putting FASTags on the windscreen, they will have to pay the toll twice. '

On July 9, our partner Economic Times published the news that the government is planning to mandate FASTags to pay toll on national highways across the country. According to the National Highways Fee (Rate and Collection Determination) Rules, 2008, the FASTag lane at a toll plaza is specifically reserved for the movement of FASTag users. If a car owner passes FASTag lane without FASTag, he will be charged double the fees. Election campaign Solution

The source said that a hybrid lane will be approved for monitoring of all the toll plazas for dimensional or over-size trains. Here a FASTag and other means will be charged. It will be implemented in a phased manner. "This is a system we are going to implement strictly," the official said. The Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways has also deployed officers to successfully implement 100 percent ETC on all toll plazas last week.

Recharge can be done like mobile
The ministry has appointed central charge officers in several states to monitor changes in the system and to work in coordination with the National Highways Authority (NHAI). It is being implemented by NHAI itself. The officer mentioned above said that most commercial trains have already adopted the FASTags system. Private car owners are still waiting to get rid of cash tolling. The official said, "We are trying to make all the people driving on toll plazas aware of FASTags. We will also finally give FASTag the facility to recharge like a mobile.
